Leap Day! 122

Day 122 Today signifies the conclusion of yet another month, which also includes a Leap Day. Although this peculiar event extends our movie-watching endeavor by two more days, I am not perturbed nor thrilled about it. With 62 days left until we reach the halfway point, time will fly by quickly. There's no need to worry about the future since tomorrow is never guaranteed. As for discussing the film, let's take a break from it and celebrate our achievement of reaching Leap Day. It's a significant milestone in the project, despite me feeling a little under the weather. Balancing the task of watching the film and writing about it can be quite challenging. However, I've been determined to see this project through to the end, even though it doesn't finish until December 31st. In fact, I took on another project, as mentioned in the "Dirty Little Secret" post. I enjoy challenging myself, whether it's at work or with outside projects. I felt that watching onl

Day 121

Day 121 February 28th, 2024 As mentioned yesterday, I discussed how horror movie villains drive their final person to kill. I find it fascinating that we, as fans, pass it off. Does that say something about us as a person? I honestly do not know.  What I find interesting in liking a final person is the bond the fans create with that person in the film they are watching. You can see yourself in that person or person you want to be. My favorite final person is Ginny, from  Friday the 13th, Part 2.  Why do I like Ginny? She's intelligent, witty, brave, and doesn't take shit from anyone. Ginny stood up for herself in her battle against Jason. They also come off as a good, wholesome person who was pushed into “killing” Jason.  The overarching question is why do we not hold the final person to the same standards as the person who drove them to “kill.” It is one of those put yourself in their shoes, and it can be argued that it is self-defense. In a way, it is correct that it would

Day 120

Day 120 February 27th, 2024 What if Freddy did not die in the battle against Jason? Per Lori, she wasn’t going to leave until she saw Freddy die. Depending on how you view the movie, Freddy did not die. Do I think she would have stayed around until Freddy died? No. I think he would have found a way back into the dream world and began everything all over again with her, until she died.  I see that line of dialog as one of the many dumb things said in the movie. Instead of getting the hell out of dodge, I want to see this man die. In a way, wouldn't that make you as bad as Freddy?  Think about it: Freddy turns his older victims into killers. Most horror icons turn their victims into killers. Why is that acceptable? They succeed because they can bring them down to their level, even if that means killing them. Does anyone go to jail for killing these people? No. They are declared insane or written off either at the start of the next film or several later. The final person is no bette

Day 119 February 26th, 2024 Why would Jason be in Freddy's nightmare?  We know that Freddy uses Jason as a vessel to return. He felt that he could return because all of the killings Jason did would be pinned on Freddy. That is a brilliant idea, but all logic is thrown out with that idea. Why is logic thrown out? People saw Jason kill people. The only people who saw Freddy kill someone were Lori and Will when Mark died.  They had it right but doubted themselves; with Freddy pulling the strings and needing Jason, instead of focusing on the physical threat, they chose to focus on Freddy.  Again, why would focusing on Freddy make sense? Freddy served Jason up on a platter to the kids when he was tranquilized. They could have dismembered Jason and then concentrated on Freddy if they were logical. Back to the topic at hand. Why does Freddy assume that Jason was in his nightmare? I think it’s because the whole film is Freddy’s nightmare. Everyone played their part in his nightmare. If w

We lost a good one.

Well, I knew that something felt off today. It was not because I was dealing with a cold or stopped breathing 80 times last night.   I was taking a much-needed break, opened up threads, and saw that we lost an actor from the film. Chris Gauthier, who played Shack, has passed away. I haven’t seen much of his work and have been surprised when he would pop up in something I’m watching. It sucks to lose someone, and this hit home with this silly project of watching this movie for a year. He will be missed, and I will always enjoy his performance in the movie, even though watching him at 2x provides the comedy the film needs. Today's viewing is in honor of Chris. Thank you for the memories and the work you have done to entertain us.

Day 118

Day 118 February 25th, 2024 pre·mo·ni·tion noun a strong feeling that something is about to happen, especially something  unpleasant ." he had  a premonition of  imminent disaster." Based on how yesterday's post ended, I would like to start today off by using the definition of Premonition and how it applies to the film. What happens in this film happens to be very unpleasant for Freddy. I imagine Freddy going through possible ways of returning, and he dreams about them or has premonitions and then changes his mind when things do not play as they should.  The film is one of those instances that does not favor Freddy in the slightest. It is almost like by the time the film nears its ending, Freddy knows he is doomed, and instead of snapping out of the dream, he winks, nods, and laughs to let us know that he is still alive.  It then shifts to the viewer to decide what happened. I wouldn't say I like how they portrayed Freddy in the film; we are watching one of his drea

Day 117

Day 117 February 24th, 2024 Here is another what-if. Freddy welcomes Jason to his nightmare. What if the entire movie never took place?  Saying the events of the movie never happened is a bold statement. We saw the events play out, so how could they have not happened? Simple.  Freddy's fear is being forgotten; he has been forgotten, and this would make him a relic of the past. Freddy is now lost in the dream world and wants to make a comeback. To prepare himself for the comeback of the century, he keeps replaying scenarios in his dreams and searching the bowels of hell, as he puts it. To find the perfect return vessel, Freddy needed to find someone weak. It is implied that Jason is weak.   Suppose we are in Freddy’s nightmare. That, to me, implies two things. He is asleep, and his fear of being forgotten has consumed him to live in a living nightmare on repeat. Freddy tries to find a way out of his dreams, and he feels he has found a way out; after dream number 1460, he finds a w

A dirty little secret

Secret Project I've been running another project in the same vein as the FVJ project. I started it on December 31st. I do not have much to say about it because FVJ is a passion project. As the days run towards an end with the FVJ project, I may give a hint to what is coming. I will say, it's not the book project that may or may not come.

Day 116. Old song, new day, and I'm feeling…

Day 116 February 23rd, 2024 We are a week away from the start of another month. I honestly thought that this would be harder than it has been.  Yesterday, I got the spring taking of taking/dethatching the yard due to the nice weather. While it made me pooped, I got my viewing in. I got the viewing at work this morning again due to an early shift. Today’s topic is the what if. What if Lori liked Blake? The obvious would be to say that she could have liked Linderman. To play devil's advocate, I would like to think that Lori may have liked Blake. She was annoyed that he came over because she did not want her friends to know about them. It seems plausible. She was annoyed that he was over. She has mentioned that he wasn't her type to throw everyone off. While she may have looked uncomfortable sitting next to him on the couch, it could have been because Kia was seated next to them. If I were in the same situation that she was in and the person I liked, and I were sitting next to e

Day 19

November 18, 2023 Day 19.  Pepe Silva Part 1. This has probably been brought up, but I still need to research. The movie plays out just like the Original A Nightmare on Elm Street, using elements and character traits from ANOES 2(An element) and ANOES 3 (Character traits). Comparisons Glove sequence- Both movies start with Freddy either making his glove or sharpening the knives on the glove. Chasing Jason, not Tina- Jason in the opening sequence is Tina from the original ANOES. Freddy isn’t chasing Jason; he is just waking him up. You could also say that later in the movie, their first fight could fit into Jason being chased through dreams just like every victim. Mark is Rod Lane. Rod was arrogant and a prick; Mark is just fucking odd and the mastermind behind everything, IMO. Will is Glen. He is the boyfriend and brings nothing to the movie besides looking good. Trey and Gibbs’ death. Katherine Isabelle is a more giant star; her death is Tina’s, and Trey’s is Glen’s because it was a

Day 21

Day 21: Pepe Silva's Revenge Tour November 20th, 2023 When we first meet the characters at Lori's house, it is the same scene as in the original when we meet the whole cast for the first time at Tina's house. We get a death, too... The basement scene with Stubbs is their version of the last group session from part 3. The rave scene is a nod to the pool party scene from ANOES 2, which was just replaced with Jason. The movie relies heavily on Dream Warriors, so it was a no-brainer that they did this. Took character traits from Dream Warriors and applied them to the following characters: Linderman is Will from Dream Warriors. The nerdy, awkward character everyone loves but gets annoyed with. He has traits of Joey as well. Freeberg is Taryn. The references are there, so I do not want to elaborate. Kia is Jennifer, except she was never welcomed to prime time or got that nose job. Gibb is like the Phillip of the group, but instead of wanting to kill herself, she drinks and smok

Day 50

Day 50  December 19th 2023 The commentary is not very insightful to the movie at all; it is just Robert Englund controlling the conversation. I would pay to listen to him just speak for hours about the nightmare films. He is very insightful and has a great dedication to the character. He did kind of confirm my theory of multiple Freddy’s, but he went on to mention that each different makeup was just Freddy getting pissed off more and more throughout the movie. I can see that through the makeup and how it just evolves throughout the film, so in reality, there are not multiple Freddys in the movie. I’m kind of bummed that they are not multiple Freddy Krueger. I decided to use dictation today, and man, it’s like doing a commentary track for myself. I guess you can say I am evolving, maybe possibly doubtful. I’m glad I got to today because it’s been a struggle getting in showings as of late between being busy with work and the holidays. I’m waiting for the holidays to be over because I t

Day 115: Movie titles.

Day 115 February 22nd, 2024 Let's roll that beautiful bean footage! In today's never-ending battle between Freddy and Jason, it's time to point out the elephant in the room. The movie was never about Freddy and Jason fighting. The title is misleading.  The gist of the movie is Freddy needing to return because people have forgotten about him. He could have used anyone to return but chose Jason without realizing his plan was flawed. His plan was flawed because he chose someone who also kills for sport. At the same time, Freddy was wise to choose Jason simply because he would get blamed for his murders.  How much longer would have Fredrick been able to get away with Jason’s murders is a plot hole, IMO. If Freddy had allowed Jason to kill while racking up those fear points, he could have returned even more potent than he believed. Freddy could have fed off the fear of the police and taken them out one by one in a systematic way, leaving Freddy in a lawless and helpless town.
