Machete

Day 214 May 31st, 2024 I've pondered this since the first showing of this project. I wonder how sharp Jason’s machete is. Given that we see it can clean swipe decapitate a person and slice a person in half, it must be pretty damn sharp. This leads me to another thing I'm curious about. When does Jason have the time to keep his machete sharpened? We see him doing this in the reboot, but it is never addressed in any other film. I am aware that this is a silly thing to ponder, but I'm trying to cover as many topics as I can concerning the movie. This leads me to the topic of the day. My favorite death. It goes to Freeberg and the sacrifice he made for the team. He was sliced cleanly in half by the never-dull machete.

Too critical?

Day 213 May 30th, 2024 I am feeling quite overwhelmed by yesterday's post about the film. It has left me questioning my judgment and making me wonder if I have been overly critical in my review. I am trying to analyze my thoughts and emotions towards the film objectively, but the post is making it difficult for me to trust my own opinions. As I watch a movie, I feel like I can't simply immerse myself in the story and enjoy it as it is. Instead, I find myself scrutinizing every aspect of it, trying to form an informed opinion. While I know I should appreciate the good parts of the movie, I can't help but point out the aspects that I don't like. It's the nature of reviewing - you have to be critical in order to provide an honest assessment. However, sometimes I wonder if this approach takes away from the simple enjoyment of the film. This was on my mind while watching the film today.

Favorite character

Day 212 May 29th, 2024 It is safe to say that my favorite character in the movie is Mark, but the more I watch, the more I am starting to like Linderman. Don't get me wrong, Mark offers more to the moving plot than Linderman does, it's how genuine Linderman is that is slowly winning me over on his character. I've explained before the traits of his in a previous post, but today's viewing had me shed a tear when he died. There is something relatable to his character that gets me. He did not deserve to die, and I am slowly understanding why he had to die. It showcases the danger and peril they are in. It took two hundred-odd viewings to realize this. The one thing I wanted from the movie was there all along in the most unlikely character's demise. I'm readjusting my rating back up to a 2/5. Wow... Never expected that to happen.

Van Artwork

Day 211 May 28th, 2024 This month has gone by fast to me. It's hard that we have a few more days left until we close the book on another month. The van owned by Bobby has a lot of artwork on it, but in my opinion, it's a little too excessive. The design might have worked well if the movie was set in the 80s, but it seems out of place for the early 2000s. The most striking element of the artwork is the depiction of a naked lady and serpent, which I find somewhat comical. The artwork has a very mythical feel to it, and I think it's quite out of place, especially considering that the van was previously owned by a character who is only mentioned briefly. It's intriguing to ponder why the decision was made to go with that particular choice, but in a peculiar way, it somehow managed to succeed. Despite appearing somewhat ludicrous, the choice adds an extra layer of enigmatic allure to the character of Bobby, who, despite being a minor character, plays a significant role in

Lori… ugh

Day 210 May 27th, 2024 Memorial Day! Thank you to those that have served and protected us in the military.  Today, another element has been added to the project. I have started listening to  Slash of the Titans: The Road to Freddy Vs Jason .  Unlike the novelization, I will do an overall book review when completed. Lori is getting on my nerves today, but then again, what should I expect? I am starting to believe that her character has been written this way on purpose. God, she's so annoying and just a baby. I understand life is tough, but you have to want to move forward, and the way she was written, moving forward was never an option. She was stuck in what was a good time in her life and never had a chance to cope.  Oh well, nothing changes in this movie; you get use to things.

Regeneration?!?

Day 209 May 26th, 2024 If Jason can regenerate now, I wonder what happens if he loses his head like Freddy did. Would Jason be dead, or in the film's scope, would that odd-shaped parasite escape his body and possess people again until it magically found another Voorhees? I want to think that Jason would be dead, with zero regeneration. Why? Zombie-killing rules apply. Ideally, just cutting off the head wouldn't kill Jason; you have to destroy the brain. But what if Jason is one of those zombies that must be dismembered to die? If so, that would explain why his fingers didn't regenerate. His eyes just got stabbed and not dislodged from the skull. I couldn't imagine Jason growing his head back. That would be fucking weird. All Freddy had to do was stab… wait, wait... Freddy stabs the skull of Jason in the third dream sequence. He stabbed into the brain of young Jason, and he was still alive, so that changed my pov on this. Jason has to be the zombie that needs to be dis

What if continued

Day 208 May 25th, 2024 To go off yesterday's subject. Freddy from the first Elm Street film stands the best chance at beating this version of Jason. He also stands the best chance at being the versions of Jason before he becomes a zombie in Part 6. Again I'm bored with the viewing today.

What if?

Day 207 May 24th, 2024 What if we got the Freddy from New Nightmare battling Jason? Would the match-up be different once the story hit reality? I think it would have been, and I think Freddy would have been a bit methodical in his approach and even would have stood a better chance against Jason. He would have been more elusive and picked his moments on when to attack Jason and would always find a way to get the upper hand in the battle.  We would be seeing a more focused Freddy, not one who bitches and moans because they are not relevant anymore. I think the battle would be drawing close to even depending on what Jason he was fighting.  If he were facing Jason from Part 2, Freddy would have won. Part 3 Jason, a tie, Part 4 Jason a tie, Part 5 Jason Freddy wins, Part 6-8 Jason’s Freddy loses. Since the story takes place after Goes to Hell, this is the battle we saw. No New Nightmare, Freddy. Hell, Super Freddy stands no chance. Ugh. The silly things I think about when I am

Passion returning?

Day 206 May 23rd, 2024 The passion is returning. The funk I was in is slowly fading. I enjoyed today's viewing. I stopped being critical and appreciated the film for what it was. What that is, I do not know, and I am okay with that. It's like a weaker version of Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman to me.  It still has its campy charms that both franchises are known for, and I wish it would have leaned into the campy side of things a bit more.

Changes?

Day 205 May 22nd, 2024 Due to my feelings from yesterday's viewing, I stretched out viewing the film as late as possible. Sadly, my comfort level didn't last long.  We need a change.  And that change is a simple one. Another rating change for the movie.  We are at two stars, but the movie is slowly settling into where it belongs ratings-wise for me.  1.5 stars. The action between Freddy and Jason is all right, but everything outside of that is sloppy storytelling. They have a lot of good ideas but execute on them poorly. They tried, but the film has enough nostalgia to make it watchable. By no means is this a horrible movie, just a cautionary tale of wanting something so much that you leave out the details that put you in the position to begin with.

Anger

Day 204 May 21st, 2024 I just finished watching a film, but for some reason, it left me feeling a bit irritated. Seeing the characters' choices play out made me feel frustrated. I know I've mentioned before that I struggle with some of the decision-making in the story, but today, it got to me.

Linderman Revisited

Day 203 May 20th, 2024 Charlie Linderman… The character in question may not have been acknowledged as the film's hero by everyone, but for me, he was the heart and soul of the movie. He was a compassionate person who got caught up in the chaos caused by others. Despite deep affection for Lori, he didn't hold it against her for choosing her prince charming, Will. It was evident that Lori clung to Will because he was likely her first for everything, and he never blamed her for choosing Will.  He was a fearless individual who wasn't afraid to stand up for himself or confront those who had wronged him. Although he didn't have to put Kia in her place, it propelled the plot forward. He even attempted to confront Shack, which worked better than his previous confrontation with Jason. Another admirable quality about him was his forgiving nature. He forgave Kia for being rude to him, and she also forgave him for standing up to her. He even forgave Lori for still having love for

Something’s missing

Day 202 May 19th, 2024 Today, I finally noticed something that I have been missing. The movie starts with Jason regenerating, and the book goes more into depth about his ability to regenerate. We see that he does regenerate his eyes before going back into the lake because he kind of winks at Lori as she drops the machete into the lake. The book does confirm that his eyes did regenerate. If you pay attention to Jason when he pops out of the lake at the end, his fingers do not regenerate from being cut off in the battle. At first, I was like, they are there, but after rewatching an FX thing on the Blu-ray and pausing the film, they are not there. They never regenerated or even began to. His nubby hand is palming Freddy’s head. Fascinating!

Body Language

Day 201 May 18th, 2024 So, what do you want to talk about? Ha ha! Let's explore why Will may seem hesitant to trust Mark and Lori in a few key scenes. As I observe their interaction, it's clear he's not at ease in Mark's presence. His body language suggests discomfort and annoyance. It's apparent that Mark wants to steer the conversation back to Freddy, and he does this repeatedly - both while they are at the library and in the van. Mark seems fixated on Freddy, who ruined Will's life. However, he finds it difficult to convince the other person, who throws up a wall whenever he brings up Freddy's name. When he questions Lori about receiving his letters, he appears even more skeptical and uncomfortable. His body language tells a story of suspicion and unease. It's almost as if he's not entirely convinced she's telling the truth. However, the most disturbing moment comes when he tells Lori that he witnessed her father killing her mother. He looks

200!

Day 200 May 17th, 2024 Day 200, only 167 days left.  I never wanted to get this far, to be honest. Now that I'm here, it's a small weight lifted from my shoulders. Watching this movie over and over leaves me with more questions than answers.  Sleep is my biggest question. How many days in a row did they stay up between Jason killing Trey until Freddy dies? We know that Gibb, Blake, and Mark got sleep. It was a costly nap for the two of them and one deadly night of drinking for Gibb. Lori did a power nap at the police station. She also dozed off talking to her father in the kitchen. She also power napped in Freeberg’s basement before she was put under in the van. Freeberg got high to the point that he lost consciousness, and Kia power napped in the nurses’ office. From what we see, Will and Linderman never sleep or nap. That has to be exhausting for their characters.  The little details get me occasionally with this film, and it's usually the lack thereof.

Damnit Bobby

Day 199 May 16th, 2024 During my recent viewing, I found myself thinking about the character Bobby, who despite having a small role in the film, plays a vital part in the story. At first, we hear about his untimely death and then see him in Mark’s nightmare.  Now, you may be wondering why a character that we hear about and see in a dream sequence is so important to the story. The answer is simple: without Bobby, we wouldn't have Mark.  Bobby's role in the story is critical because, without him, nobody would have known about Krueger and how to defeat him. Furthermore, without Bobby, nobody would have been around to spread the fear of Krueger to Lori, which is another key aspect of the plot.  Moreover, if it wasn't for Bobby, there would be no van, and the group would have had no safe haven. As transportation is concerned, it's hard not to notice that Will attended the same driving school as Michael Myers. Will was locked up at 14, and you get your driver's license
