Easter Sunday

Day 153 March 31st, 2024 Happy Easter!! Does Lori’s father need her, or is that an excuse? Lori states early in the film that she chooses not to move on from Will because her dad needs her. Given Dr. Campbell’s actions in the movie, I feel it is safe to say that he doesn't need her. If he could, and it was shown, he would drug his daughter to protect the town's plan on Freddy. Father of the year there! Lori did try to say she wasn't interested in Blake, as Kia kept trying to press the dating issue. It's not Kia’s issue to deal with. If her friend doesn't want to date, that is fine; don't drag her first love into this.  I do believe that Lori is being manipulated by her father and that he uses her mother’s death against her. He makes her feel like she has nobody and that he is all she has. So she thinks that her father needs her when he doesn't. Lori clings to time when life was better, and that was when she was with Will. Clinging onto Will could be how sh

What ifs.

Day 152 March 30th, 2024 What happens to Freddy if nobody is afraid? Does he linger in the dream world? Does he become a weakened older man? Hell, does Freddy even age? To me, these questions would be interesting if they were answered.  I want to think that if nobody remembers Freddy, he would fade away. If you apply real-world logic, it would be nearly impossible not to know who Freddy was. But these movies defy real-world logic and treat the audience like we are stupid.  He might be lingering in the dream world, searching for someone to latch onto. However, his attempts are futile as he is in a weakened state. The movie establishes one thing: Freddy gets weak when nobody fears him. That is one of the rarities in the film that they get right. There is no suspense in him gaining strength; he just caught the dumbest kid at the right time to gain full strength with A kill. We all age, and it is never defined in the rules of Freddy. Is Freddy stuck at the age he died in real life, or ha

151 ways to fail

Day 151 March 29th, 2024 It's pretty baffling why we can't utter his name. A name is just a name unless tied to a complicated situation. In the context of the film, saying his name can cost you your life because of the residents of Springwood who are determined to silence him. It's established that the kids in the town are unaware of Freddy, as those who know about him are working hard to suppress him. Therefore, theoretically, nobody knows of Freddy Krueger. So, saying his name should not invoke any fear. It's like uttering a random name that would receive an odd look from the person you speak with. The likelihood of them looking up to that person is slim to none. Even if they did look him up, they would find nothing since the town has blacked out anything regarding Freddy, and the internet seems to be in its infancy in this film. So, the town did its job of suppressing him. But the suppression does not make up for what the citizens did.  Plus, if fear is what powers

Day 150

Day 150 March 28th, 2024 I've reached Day 150 of Freddy vs Jason, and it's been a wild ride so far. We're only 34 days away from the halfway point of this challenge. However, the second half of this challenge will be even more challenging. Starting from March 29th, I'll be watching scary movies halfway to Halloween and dedicating May to Vincent Price. By September 1st, I'll be fully immersed in Halloween movie-watching mode. I'm excited but also aware that I need to be more active and take advantage of the better weather that's coming. I'm proud of how far I've come, and I've repeatedly mentioned that there's no turning back. As much as I've enjoyed adding Child's Play to the mix, I want to stay true to the original goal of this project, which was to focus on FVJ. However, I might start talking about the second movie I watch daily. I know this challenge isn't for everyone, and adding a second movie was probably a bit crazy. But

Gremlins 2 Style?

Day 149 March 27th, 2024 Why is Freddy able to revive the dead? In the movie, there is a scene where Freddy Krueger manages to enter Jason Voorhees' subconscious mind, where he discovers a way to revive him. It's worth noting that Jason's physical body appears to be in a state of decay, with only his bones visible. There is no sign of any flesh or body tissue, suggesting that he has been dead for quite some time. My main question is, when did Freddy gain this power?  Why does Freddy have this power all of a sudden? If he has had this all along, that is a true game-changer for his character, and that means he could bring anyone back to life to help him dispose of everyone on Elm Street essentially.  But his newly found powers do not stop there. Freddy can now has the power of possession again. The film does a wonderful job of showing the audience once again that Freddy and body possession still do not work.  It was goofy yet charming to revisit what did not work in Elm Str

The Dream.. Day 148

Day 148 March 26th, 2024 Eye spy with my little eye, missing clothes returning! The reason behind Jason's inability to die in the film is never explained, which leaves a significant plot hole. When we first encounter him, he is decaying, yet he miraculously regenerates. This inconsistency undermines the film's credibility and leaves the audience puzzled. It seems like Jason is lifeless, and the idea of Freddy being able to create a life by invading the subconsciousness of a deceased person doesn't seem to make any sense. I will come back to that topic tomorrow. The movie would have been better if it had dedicated some time to elaborate on the reason behind Jason's invincibility, as it would have helped the audience comprehend and appreciate the character's unique trait. A little explanation could have gone a long way in making the film more engaging and immersive. Do you think there's a possibility that this was a deliberate move? Could they have already plann

147 days in!

Day 147 March 25th, 2024 I think the scene in the movie where Jason tears off Freddy's arm didn't hit the mark with the audience. Freddy's reaction to having his arm ripped off was not as intense as it could have been, which made the scene less suspenseful and realistic. Even though it was amusing to watch Freddy underestimate Jason, the lack of a visceral response took away from the overall impact of the moment. In my opinion, the scene seemed to portray Jason as the more dominant character, and I can understand why the filmmakers made that choice.

Day 146…

Day 146 March 24th, 2024 I noticed that the movie lacked suspense, which made it less exciting. It failed to create twists or turns that could keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The only scene that made some suspense was when Freddy was stalking Gibb. However, apart from that one scene, the movie couldn't deliver the suspense that the plot required. This lack of suspense made the plot appear flat, leaving the viewers unsatisfied. The acting skills of Robert Englund and Katharine Isabelle were impressive in the scene where Freddy and Gibb were interacting. Their facial expressions, body language, and tone of voice were in perfect harmony, creating an atmosphere of intense suspense that kept the audience on the edge of their seats. This scene proved to be a memorable moment in the film. I wish the movie had more suspenseful sequences to compensate for the lack of scares. Freddy was scary while chasing Gibb in her dream, but he wasn't as frightening in other parts of

Day 145

Day 145 March 23rd, 2024 Random thoughts  Jason can regenerate a t-shirt!! Oh, the comedy never ends in this film!!! Mary was my favorite of the Three Stooges. Gibb may be under the limit to the point that her lips do not match up to what's being said. What if Lori wanted to meet a woman and not a guy? Nobody heard the back door being opened or someone walking up the stairs. Insulting our intelligence is one of the many things this movie gets right. I feel like I have mentioned this before. Since the town is all about containing and covering up, Stubbs was in the right place at the right time. I am almost sure that they patrol 1428 Elm every day.  Whose we’re? The little girl states that we’re everywhere. Whose everywhere?!? I'm pretty sure it's not Freddy because he seems to have completion anxiety. Revenge is his goal, and he fails in the end. Why is the house so important?  Why do the cops stand around and look dumbfounded? Gibbs double-puffing away at school is terrib

Day 144

Day 144 March 22nd, 2024 Another day in the Land of FvJ! Today is a fun topic, or is it? Why do the kids at the school look disgusted and annoyed with Lori, Gibb, and Kia? I have seen the school scenes repeatedly and find it funny, but it is a much deeper scene.  None of the kids at school look like they are mourning the loss of two students and possible friends. They are going on with their life like nothing has happened. They look at the group disgusted, ashamed of them, and annoyed. But what makes this even more odd is at the rave, some of the students start talking about what happened and what the cops said. So, why act disgusted?  I feel that there is something at play here, and it's Freddy. He managed to single out that group to get their fellow peers to believe that they had killed Trey. In a way, he is turning everyone against them so that they can play into Freddy’s game.  Freddy is perfect in creating isolation between his victims and everyone else around them. The film

Day 143

Day 143 March 21st, 2024 "Insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results." -? Ha! I bet you thought I was going to credit Albert Einstein there! It could be credited to one Rita Mae Brown, but the question mark makes more sense, considering I've been coming empty on finding out who said it initially. It may have originated from the eighties, which, to me, makes more logical sense. It showed up in 1980 in literature published by Narcotics Anonymous (Becker; “Insanity”). Today's post is not about finding the quote's origins, but it is about that mysterious quote and how it applies to this project. Where does my insanity begin?  The title of the movie is misleading. You could have called the film A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 7: The Quarantine. In no way is this a mash-up movie between Freddy and Jason. Fuck, the movie is not even about them fighting. It is about Freddy needing to feel relevant because the town found a way to defeat hi
