151 ways to fail

 Day 151

March 29th, 2024

It's pretty baffling why we can't utter his name. A name is just a name unless tied to a complicated situation. In the context of the film, saying his name can cost you your life because of the residents of Springwood who are determined to silence him.

It's established that the kids in the town are unaware of Freddy, as those who know about him are working hard to suppress him. Therefore, theoretically, nobody knows of Freddy Krueger. So, saying his name should not invoke any fear. It's like uttering a random name that would receive an odd look from the person you speak with. The likelihood of them looking up to that person is slim to none.

Even if they did look him up, they would find nothing since the town has blacked out anything regarding Freddy, and the internet seems to be in its infancy in this film. So, the town did its job of suppressing him. But the suppression does not make up for what the citizens did.

Plus, if fear is what powers Freddy, how would they all of a sudden be afraid of him? They know nothing of Freddy, who he was, and what he did. The film could have elaborated on why he thrives off of fear but does a terrible job of expanding on the fear aspect. I cannot imagine a group of teens fearing a name because a crazy girl at school was describing her dreams and was interrupted by a psychopath.
