What ifs.
Day 152
March 30th, 2024
What happens to Freddy if nobody is afraid?
Does he linger in the dream world?
Does he become a weakened older man?
Hell, does Freddy even age?
To me, these questions would be interesting if they were answered.
I want to think that if nobody remembers Freddy, he would fade away. If you apply real-world logic, it would be nearly impossible not to know who Freddy was. But these movies defy real-world logic and treat the audience like we are stupid.
He might be lingering in the dream world, searching for someone to latch onto. However, his attempts are futile as he is in a weakened state.
The movie establishes one thing: Freddy gets weak when nobody fears him. That is one of the rarities in the film that they get right. There is no suspense in him gaining strength; he just caught the dumbest kid at the right time to gain full strength with A kill.
We all age, and it is never defined in the rules of Freddy. Is Freddy stuck at the age he died in real life, or has he aged? I would like to believe that he does age but at a slower rate than everyone else around him in reality. After all, he is a dream demon.
What if they applied real-world logic to the Elm Street franchise?
That would make the movies grounded in reality, and honestly, that may be the kick in the butt that the franchise needs to return. It would make Freddy scary and unpredictable. He could attack anywhere and at any time and not be limited to Springwood. But for the sake of not turning the movie into the ending of Truth or Dare, keeping the story contained to Elm Street is best. Freddy on a worldwide level could be interesting if done right.
These thoughts came to mind when listening to his rant for the 152nd time about not being relevant since the town came up with its terrible containment plan.
