Fear

Day 244 June 30th, 2024 In the movie, Kia quickly becomes frightened of Freddy shortly after learning about him, maybe within an hour or so before Lori faints upon seeing Will's return. It's disappointing that this aspect wasn't explored further, but it effectively serves its purpose in the film. This moment is meant to demonstrate how rapidly fear of Freddy can spread. In theory, Freddy should have regained his full strength before inflicting harm on Kia in her dream by removing her nose. Later, it's implied that Freddy is at or very close to full strength when he's chasing Gibb.

Stubbs the Mind Reader

Day 243 June 29, 2024 I found an inconsistency in the movie's plot that bothered me. In one scene, Stubbs suddenly appears in the basement to assist the core group with their issue involving Jason. However, it is unclear how Stubbs became aware of the situation and why he believed they were the individuals he was pursuing. Addressing this plot hole would have improved the film by providing a more cohesive and logical storyline. Stubbs' sudden appearance felt jarring and out of place, which detracted from my overall enjoyment of the movie.

Film Education 101

Day 242 June 28, 2024 Today brought yet another day of adventure in Springwood. Upon rewatching, I found myself reflecting on whether I had learned anything new from the experience. Surprisingly, I came to the conclusion that I hadn't gained any new insights. It's almost comical in a way. I've been attempting to warm up to Blake, but truth be told, I find it quite challenging. The sheer irritation his character invokes almost makes me wish for his demise.

KGR News

Day 241 June 27, 2024 I was puzzled by this in the film. The news coverage from KGR focused on the deaths at 1428 Elm. It sparked a theory in my mind, a relatively straightforward one: I believe that Freddy is exerting control over events at Westin Hills. I've alluded to this possibility, but this latest development reinforces my belief. If the news coverage hadn't occurred, the fear associated with Freddy would not have spread beyond Westin Hills, the facility where Freddy is supposedly contained.

Pacing

Day 240 June 26, 2024 After Trey's demise, the movie gains momentum and maintains a relentless pace until the final act. I appreciate the film's quickened tempo following his departure, but it truly hits its stride after Mark's passing, propelling the narrative to even greater heights. I found the pacing of the movie to be generally steady, although there were some moments that slowed it down, such as the basement scene and the beginning of Jason's nightmare.

Cautionary Tale

Day 239   June 25, 2024 It's interesting to note that in this movie, there is a lack of parental figures apart from Lori's father. This absence of parental supervision raises questions about the role of Freeberg's parents in the narrative. Why would they disclose information about Freddy to him? Perhaps they perceive the entire narrative surrounding Freddy to be inaccurate. Alternatively, they may not fully comprehend the town's concerted efforts to eliminate Freddy. It's also possible that they are not actively involved in the town's plan to combat Freddy. Another possibility is that they possess knowledge about Freddy but are indifferent to the situation. Do they believe that the town's efforts to thwart Freddy are merely a ploy to control the teenagers of Springwood? The fact that Freeberg's parents informed him about Freddy is intriguing. Regardless of whether this information is authentic or fabricated, one would expect individuals familiar with t

Defying the odds!

Day 238 June 24, 2024 Freddy can swim pretty damn fast with one arm.  He and Jason were blasted into the lake from the propane explosion, and yet he was able to make it back to the dock just in time for Will and Lori to feel safe and cozy. This makes no sense on a few different levels. Freddy must have a high pain tolerance to survive losing an arm and being blown up essentially. His dream world powers cease to exist in reality. When did he gain super strength outside of the dream world?  Logically this makes no sense for Freddy to get back to the dock that fast unless he is a fast swimmer, even at a handicap. Movie magic I guess. This movie manages to piss me off it many different ways!

Box office

Day 237   June 23, 2024 After watching thousands of movies and spending the better part of over twenty years in the movie theater business, I feel confident that Freddy vs. Jason was a film designed to have opening weekend success, and that's all.  There is a reason it needed that one-weekend pop: word of mouth tanks or makes films. This is a bad movie, and not bad for the good reasons. While there is charm in the film, it was designed to pop and then die off. Looking over the box office stats of the film, there was a 63.2% drop from week one to week two and a 46.9% drop from week two to week 3.  If you watch the movie critically, you will realize the drop. Word of mouth hurt the film more than likely. Not to mention that the hardcore fans came out on opening weekend and maybe didn't bother to return.  I returned eight times when it was in theaters. Then again, it was free, but the only chance we had was to see Freddy and Jason together in a film. If we knew now what we did n

What nightmares are made of?

Day 236 June 22, 2024 Sadly, Freddy has nightmares about playing human pinball with Jason. Whoever thought this was a good idea to include in the script must have been digging for script filler and may have hoped that it would be great to see on screen.  SMH

Sounds

Day 235 June 21, 2024 This is a short and sweet post. This movie relies too much on sound effects to establish the weapons as real vs a prop weapon.

Sequences

Day 234   June 20th, 2024 I like one edit in the movie and hate one edit. I like the edit when Mark screams for someone to help him. Then we see Will and Lori arrive at his house, driving like a crazed person, wanting to get in the house to save Mark. It's almost edited in the way that they heard his call for help. It was clever and silly, to be honest. The edit I hate comes when we transition to Will and Mark at the library, then get a close-up of the van at Mark’s house, and then the scene cuts to show them in the van. What bothers me about this is the jump cuts and overarching dialog. We are led to believe that this was taking place at the library but not a continuation of their conversation in the van. Considering the conversation started in the day time and ends at night, that adds to the confusion of this sequence. I'm not too fond of the close-up shot at Westin Hills. It seems unnecessary to focus on the pack of cigarettes and lighter in such detail. This shot feels la

Source of the leaks?

Day 233 June 19, 2024 Who told the kid at the rave that Freddy used to live there? I believe we are left on a cliffhanger, but I strongly suspect who informed the kid about Freddy. It wasn't his parents, it wasn't Freeberg, and most conspicuously, it wasn't Springwood’s finest. My gut feeling tells me that it was Freddy himself.  Freddy's survival depends on instilling fear among others. After Lori's emotional breakdown at school, Freddy seized the opportunity to exploit a vulnerable individual and begin his manipulative tactics. The individual who spoke those words might have been a background character, but the statement raised numerous unresolved inquiries regarding how he obtained information about Freddy's history.

Searching hell?

Day 232 June 18, 2024 Did Freddy need to search the bowels of hell to return? Honestly, no. Eventually, he was bound to return once people died off and with the evolution of time.  You can only hide him for so long until someone would have stumbled upon his crimes, death, and supernatural rebirth.  His crimes would have been examined under a microscope, making him look terrible, but there is more to his story. The entertaining part would be how he got away with everything based on a technicality.  To follow up, the main focus of the return would most likely be what the town did with vigilante justice. Fear would begin to spread, and Freddy would be relevant again. Thus being able to return without needing Jason. Freddy’s return would be on a grander scale and not be confined to Elm Street. And what else would appeal to this is the deaths that came afterward. Supernatural shows have their audience, and more than likely, they would visit the house or town where he died. Things would be

Fake Friends

Day 231 June 17th, 2024 Welcome to another day in the life of. The dynamic among the core group of women in this film feels artificial and lacks authenticity. It seems as though the writers attempted to transplant the typical traits of the "final girl" trope onto the characters of Lori, Gibb, and Kia without much consideration for their individual personalities. Improving the chemistry between these characters could have greatly enhanced the overall quality of the film. In my opinion, the lack of rapport between the female leads detracts from the movie's impact. Unlike previous installments in both franchises, this film suffers the most because it appears that the focus was solely on featuring Freddy and Jason without prioritizing the development of a more compelling narrative around their ultimate confrontation. While the fundamental story is present, the absence of strong interpersonal chemistry among the characters undermines the overall cohesiveness of the film. In

Father’s Day

Day 230 June 16, 2024 Happy Father's Day to the hundred maniacs, the credited Freddy’s Father from Freddy’s Dead, Freddy himself, and to an actual skeleton in Jason’s closet.  Skeletons in the closet? In the movie, Freddy looks pretty preoccupied with Jason's thoughts. Jason seems to be haunted by his "drowning" experience, which seems to constantly play in his mind. Freddy's concern over what Jason is hiding suggests that there might be something significant that Jason is trying to keep secret. A weakness comes to mind. Maybe Freddy is probing his mind to find the solution to killing Jason once and for all. That seems too complex for Freddy, to be honest. Like how the film began, he was more than likely looking for a way to manipulate Jason once again. He used his mother, so why not go back to the well to find another piece from his past to use against Jason?  Now, this creates a missed opportunity for the film. They could have introduced Jason’s father, Elias,

Dumb lines

Day 229 June 15th, 2024 The rapid fire of dumb lines by memory, and here we go Lighten up their menthols. Your back door was open; I closed it.  (said with a creepy smile). Your hair smells like menthols anyway. Do you need some assistance? Duh, she came up to your car with bloody hands. What kind of a f runs around in a Christmas sweater? I'm going to take him out, Trey, swear to god.  You know that's just all in your head. Are you the poster boy for sanity? Freddy died by fire, and Jason died by water; how can we use that? Kia, you need a lobotomy.  Linderman, you know, I always pictured you as a straight-up bed-wetter. Dude, don’t look at me, even if you pay for it, it still counts. Welcome to my world bitch! Said by Lori It’s time to leave to convent Lori, you need to meet a guy. What do you see in him? I don’t know but he has a cute ass. You were confused. Why don’t I give you some pills and we’ll talk about it in the morning. Ha ha ha Your eyes say no no , but my mouth
