My name is Josh Quist. For 367 days straight, I watched Freddy vs. Jason. Every single day. On purpose.

If you are wondering why someone would do that to themselves, honestly, so am I.

The Short Version

On November 1, 2023, I pressed play on Freddy vs. Jason and did not stop pressing play until October 31, 2024. Same movie. Every day. 97 minutes at a time. I wrote about every single viewing on this blog, in real time, as it was happening to me.

Some days I had things to say. Some days I had nothing. I wrote anyway.

What You Will Find Here

367 blog posts. One per day. They are not polished. They are not edited. They are the real-time record of what happens when a person commits to something this pointless for this long. The tone changes over the year. The early posts are curious. The middle posts are heavy. The late posts are loose. None of that was planned.

Along the way, the project wandered. Child's Play showed up. Other horror movies crept in. But the core never changed: show up, watch, write, repeat. For 367 days.

Where to Start

What started as a strange personal experiment became something I did not expect: a daily practice in showing up, even when I did not feel like it. Especially when I did not feel like it.

Thanks for being here. Or not. Either way, I already watched the movie today.

Day 23

November 22nd 2023  Day Twenty Three has arrived. Does Will Know About Freddy? I feel comfortable saying he did not know about Freddy until Jason came to Elm Street. He was only quarantined because he witnessed Lori’s mom being murdered. It was never established either that he had any prior knowledge. There is a line of dialogue in which he ruined our pasts. Lori says that near the end of the movie. What is being held back concerning their past? Given her father is the hypno drug pusher, Lori would never know of Freddy. Is their past Lori’s mom dying? Were they the last victims of Freddy, and that’s why he went after her mom. Was Will accusing Lori’s dad of murdering the event that ruined their past? The movie never fleshes out that plot point. It is never implied that the main cast, except for Mark and those covering up the crimes, had knowledge of Freddy. I still do believe that everything was blamed on Freddy in the town! Day 15

November 14, 2023. Day 15! We are fifteen days away from hitting 30 days!!! To bring everyone up to speed, I am toying with ideas for bringing this project to the public. I will still post on threads for a bit longer and return to just making notes. My last post about this on threads will be on day 30. I've even spoken with someone about making this a book; honestly, that is what I want to do. It allows me to keep my writing without editing my thoughts and randomness. I enjoy the mix of telling stories of my life, passing along some wisdom I hope, and the randomness of what I keep finding. So, two days of the week will be dedicated to telling life stories, while the rest will focus solely on the movie. Day 19

  November 18, 2023 Day 19.  Pepe Silva Part 1. This has probably been brought up, but I still need to research. The movie plays out just like the Original A Nightmare on Elm Street, using elements and character traits from ANOES 2(An element) and ANOES 3 (Character traits). Comparisons Glove sequence- Both movies start with Freddy either making his glove or sharpening the knives on the glove. Chasing Jason, not Tina- Jason in the opening sequence is Tina from the original ANOES. Freddy isn’t chasing Jason; he is just waking him up. You could also say that later in the movie, their first fight could fit into Jason being chased through dreams just like every victim. Mark is Rod Lane. Rod was arrogant and a prick; Mark is just fucking odd and the mastermind behind everything, IMO. Will is Glen. He is the boyfriend and brings nothing to the movie besides looking good.
