Power
Day 282

Did the children give Freddy his power?
Fuck no!
That mother fucker knew what he was doing and knew he would always have the upper hand, preying on vulnerable people, especially children.
In a way, he had some power, but it was not supernatural power; it was the power of control. This topic angers me a bit, yet we are just to accept this fault in Freddy.
Granted, I am one of the many well-versed in Freddy lore; his arch changed forever in Dream Warriors. He went from being the scum of the earth to cool and hip. Thanks to a retcon of his character to shy away from his dark past and focus on killing the teenagers of the parents who killed him.
Do I think the retcon worked? Yes and no. No, because Freddy was more frightening when you had an idea of his actions. Yes, because of how the retcon was approached, his past was still there but not as vile as it originally was.
I didn't like how the film presented Freddy in his opening Montague. They wanted to point out how evil he really was, but they dialed things back to what feels like a dumbed-down version for the audience.
