Chapter 18
The end is near.
This is a straightforward chapter yet again. It has a nice mix of what is happening in Lori’s dream and the remainder of the group dealing with the aftermath of the car wreck/arriving at Camp Crystal Lake.
I liked the nice nod to Jason Takes Manhattan in this chapter, but I am confused about how they suddenly knew that Jason went up the coast of New York. It must have been in the search Linderman did earlier on Jason.
The chapter has an intriguing sequence that pops up in Lori’s dream. That would be Dr. Campbell not killing his wife as seen in the film, but what the film lacked would have improved the film. The doctor had to cover up the crime because nobody would understand that she died in her dreams; he needed Sherrif Williams to help cover up what happened. He had to persuade the sheriff to believe him about Freddy. I find that hard to believe, given what was established at the beginning of the book.
Interesting epilog to Dream Warriors: Nancy died, as seen in the film; Dr Neil Gordon, Dr. Elizabeth Simms, and the survivors of that film all died after being off Hypnocil.
It was Dr. Campbell who re-opened Westin Hills, and it was him and Sherriff Williams plan to lock up any kids who had any interaction with Freddy there and treat them with Hypnocil. They did this to save lives…
Shocking revelations that would have made the movie better are revealed in the chapter as it comes to a close; we end with Freddy killing Lori’s mother.
