Chapter 1
Day 174

Chapter One
Chapter one includes the deleted scene with Heather and Billy, along with Jason’s opening dream sequence shown at the film's beginning. Nothing is shocking here, just a scene they should have kept in the movie.
I do like that it stated in the book that Heather was swimming for twenty minutes before she realized that Mike wasn’t there. I also liked that the book brought in some tension with Heather hearing noises while she continued to swim. The book kept adding a sense of fear for Heather until she decided to get out of the lake. The movie makes it seem like she swam for a shorter time and just got out because Mike wasn't there. There is no mention in the film of the crackling of tree branches until she gets out of the lake.
In the book, Heather manages to run to a cabin. In the movie, she doesn't. The funny thing in the book is that the cabin door is locked, and she lost the key!
Another thing I liked in the book that the movie should have had was when victims were morphing on the tree; it went through previous victims from prior films. That would have been a nice touch added to the film instead of the generic group of teens we got. They should have had this in the movie as well, Jason seeing all of his deaths flash before his eyes. We got that with Freddy in the film; why not Jason?
Showing Pamela’s greatest hits of kills would have been nice to see in the film, but it was a nice touch to the book. The sad part of the book is that they refer to one of the final girls as A girl. Just call her Ginny, for crying out loud; you are referencing her.
So Jason has been killing Heather on a loop well over a thousand times. Interesting.
The rest of the chapter plays out like the movie, but it would have been nice to see Jason burst out of his grave. The first chapter ends where we see the opening sequence that says Freddy vs Jason with that bad CGI.
