Day 125
March 3rd, 2024
In any story, setups are crucial to establish the plot and characters. In this particular story, three critical setups lay the foundation for the narrative.
The first setup revolves around Freddy needing Jason to return, setting the stage for the story. The second setup is the death of Trey, which acts as the inciting incident and propels the story forward.
The third setup emerges when Will and Mark wait in line to get their daily dose of hypnocil at Weston Hills, where a breaking news segment catches their attention. This setup not only introduces us to the elusive Will but also to Mark. Will's panic at the sight of Lori in the breaking news segment hints at a deeper connection between them, adding another layer to the story.
A love story hidden in a horror movie!
Including a love story in the middle of a horror film can sometimes seem unnecessary. While the battle between two titans of horror is undoubtedly critical to the plot, the insertion of a love story can often appear pointless. Why not allow the horror to take center stage without the added distraction of a romantic subplot?
The inclusion of the subplot that focused on reconciling the lost love between Will and Lori seemed like an unusual choice for the film. It felt like it was added as filler content to compensate for the inadequacies in the main storyline. This gave rise to the impression that the primary plot was poorly written and lacked substance.
