Kia

 Day 111

February 18th, 2024

These are the days of our lives, just until Halloween of this year!

I want to discuss how I thought of Kia and realized that her character had a full-circle moment in the film.

Let's start with how her character comes across. She comes across as she is the HBIC. She only cares about her looks and does what she feels best for her friends. Her friends at first were not allowed to have an opinion, but in the most of danger, she lightened up.

She just assumed that Lori needed to date someone. I am guessing it was her idea to have Trey bring Blake over. Lori is not interested in Blake. That seems to me like it offended Kia because she should be thankful to her even though she went out of her way for her. She comes off as a prick when she scolds Lori for still liking Will. There is no time limit on getting over your first love. According to Kia, there is, and it seems it should be immediately.

Somebody can argue that she wants what is best for her friend. But I see it as her wanting to control Lori. I could be wrong, and that is fine, but that's how I see it.

You would think her terror reign would end with her scolding Lori. Nope, she begins to start bullying Linderman.

Linderman is trying his best to be a good person and give Lori a healing shoulder in her time of trauma. Nope, Kia will tell Linderman to leave Lori alone and get away. As if that wasn't bad enough, she has the kahunas to chastise Linderman and compare him to a dog thrusting your leg.

Kia seems quick to take control. She tends to do a bit of assuming for her friends. Kia is a known bully and chastises people at their lowest and most vulnerable moments. When Kia has to deal with someone pushing back at her, she fades just as fast as the Chicago Cubs do.

The best example of Kia backing down is with Linderman at the rave. Linderman hits his boiling point with Kia and calls her out on everything. He is right to defend himself, but part of me feels he got a little carried away to prove his point. Kia does her best to shrug off what Linderman says, but you know it affected her. She eventually dances with Linderman at the rave to mend his broken heart because Will is back in the picture with Lori.

At that moment, we see Kia and Linderman awkwardly fall in love. You find out in a deleted scene, which we have covered, that he mentioned to Kia in the van that he likes her.

While at first, her arc does everything I mentioned to start with, that does not mean that she was the wrong person. She comes full circle in the film. You may dislike Kia to begin with and feel that she brings nothing to the group of friends.

She gets put in her place, and everything changes. We got to see her have a tender moment with Linderman. We got to see her be brave and sacrifice herself so that Will and Lori could escape. She is rough around the edges and has a bit of an ego, but she comes full circle and is the one character who redeemed herself in the film.

We all have that one friend who means well but comes off rough around the edges. It was a nice, relatable person to have in the film.

In real life, I guess The actress who played Kia is a bit of a diva. She ditched out on co-hosting the Today show on Thursday over a damn dressing room. Maybe I was onto something.
