Jason 101
Day 101
February 8th, 2024
Here we go with our next set of 100 views.
Today I want to talk about one of the few bright spots in the film. When Jason is resurrected it is a cool sequence. I love how we see him regrow and regenerate with the lungs and heart but the scene fails to show his skin regeneration. He is a skeleton and in a matter of seconds, he is brought back and breathing and walking without any sense of direction.
Freddy vs Jason trilogy?
This brings me to the topic of how Jason can regenerate. We have had teases linking Jason and Freddy to the Evil Dead franchise. This would have been explored more and was in the sequel graphic novel of Freddy vs Jason vs Ash. Then the verses saga comes to a conclusion in Freddy vs Jason vs Ash: Nightmare Warriors.
I recommend reading at the very least the first graphic novel because it does the one thing this movie should have done. Nostalgia and banking on prior characters from the Nightmare and Friday series to come together to continue the fight. Nowadays you could honestly do this because horror franchises have run out of steam imo and now we have this new dumb concept of legacy sequels.
You could easily legacy sequel this movie and forget about the first film. You could bring in Tommy Jarvis, and Tina and use the legacy sequel formula, and bring back Nancy Thompson, and Kristen Parker. Bring in Alice from Friday part one and Alice from Elm Street 4. To round things off Ginny the best final girl imo from Friday Part 2 would return. You could also bring back Jesse Walsh from Elm Street 2 to give four from each franchise, but the fans may outcry and want Taryn from Dream Warriors. Have them work with a new set of teens in the battle of Freddy vs Jason. If I was casting the film Tommy would have to be played by Thom Matthews. Sorry Corey and John :(
In many ways, the graphic novel sequels came off more as legacy sequels and that’s why they worked well in my opinion. They also used some of the characters I’ve mentioned above and that twist! I’d apply that twist to a legacy sequel of the film somehow. It would have to be a one-and-done film and you could honestly legacy sequel the film in animation as well. That would still allow us to have Robert as Freddy and we could finally have A Freddy vs Jason movie with Kane Hodder doing the motion capture for Jason if he cannot, I’d go with Derek Mears doing the Jason motion capture. Fans would want Kane though and if it is an animated film it would work.
These are random thoughts.
