Day 98

Day 98

February 5th 2024

We are getting closer to being in triple digits.

Today I was simply annoyed with the choices made by the characters and super pissed off for no reason for their lack of empathy. I know that this is just a movie, but it’s the little things I feel that can make or break a movie. I will never understand why they went with a lack of empathy let alone compassion for their friends dying. I know I’ve mentioned all of that previously but today it just really irked me and made me almost stop watching the film or throw something at my phone in protest.

I feel it should be a requirement in horror films to spend time with kids if the movie has kids, teenagers, and adults as the ones being haunted or stalked by a serial killer or a supernatural being. Why do I feel that way? You lose the opportunity to write a good film that has how kids, teens, and adults act and may possibly react to being chased by whomever is after them. You also would be able to write a movie that is relatable to those demographics as well. Touch on issues that are important and then throw the book at them with obscure shit.

Like I’m sure most people realistically would be cool if someone like Jason, Michael, Freddy, or Chucky were real. Most wouldn’t feel threatened by Chucky because he is a doll you can kick around, Freddy would be funny to most and people would try to be his friend, and Jason and Michael would just be that weird motherfucker you avoid.

All I am saying is to spend time with the demographics of your film protagonist-wise and write a movie that is scary but relatable to how they act in real life. Not this stupid shit of no empathy or feelings, and laughable dumb choices they make. Make something relatable to the audience and if that doesn’t work go back to the formulas.
