99 Freddy's on the wall

Day 99

February 6th, 2024

We are on the eve of a big viewing.

Today I am simply curious as to why and how they thought of containing Freddy. The why is simple, keep people alive. but who is the architect of the plan of just wiping Freddy from history like he never existed.

When they wrote the film I feel like they gave it the old college try to come up with a realistic idea on how to combat Freddy but in practice it is impossible. Look at what happened in real life four years after this, I will just say the name, Chris Benoit. The WWE tried to pull a page from this movie and that worked really well. Thus proving my point that you cannot purge anyone from history.

I’ve been waiting to reference that because that is the first thing that comes to mind when you try scrubbing someone from history, you cannot. The power of the internet, and what people remember of that person and/or events will keep their memory alive. Good or bad.

Case in point with this movie it was acknowledged that parents knew who Freddy was, and the cops knew who Freddy was. So why did they think that just forgetting him would work? It is never established in the film who had the idea and why they went with the idea, it simply existed for four years but didn’t for the 10 years Freddy was non-existent. What did they use for those 10 years to be Freddy-free?

I know I’ve mentioned this before but I swear they had to use a Joker-like tactic and put hypnocil in the water supply. Imagine if they did that. Freddy wouldn’t be in Springwood. They literally could taunt Freddy if they wanted to depending on how fast hypnocil works.

So I leave this with an unanswered question of the film, whose idea was it to forget about Freddy and what was their real plan outside of blocking him from old newspaper clippings? People knew of Freddy and what he did. Did they play the role of a dictatorship and kill anyone who talked of or about Freddy? Did the town make a deal and sacrifice to Freddy to get peace for a limited time? Once the time was up, was there a purge to keep Freddy happy, and after a certain time he went dormant for another 4-10 years.

That would be an interesting point of view. The town knows of Freddy and every new generation they bring him back to purge the town and instill fear and power. A true survival of the fittest.

I feel the movie tries to imply that it was Lori’s father who had the master plan of forgetting Freddy and using hypnocil. That very well may be the truth and the reason why Freddy killed his wife to get revenge. This would allow Freddy to take away something from him since he took the kids of Elm Street away from him.
