Day 9
A leap year, ugh.
Day Nine: November 8th, 2023.
51 weeks remaining. 358 viewings left until Halloween 2024... At the time of writing, I am only on day 9. I have said so much so far…
The first week was a fun journey, but nothing is truly missing in this movie. Everything seems rushed, not thought out, and most of all, it insults the fans of both franchises. You have weak characters that you are supposed to consider caring for. Terrible dialogue and reactions to what is happening to their friends. Terrible logic on how to stop someone who invades your dreams. Throw in a dash of Jason, who is no real threat, and you get Freddy V Jason.
Insulting the fans' intelligence.
The film starts by treating you like you have no clue who Freddy is. Then we sprinkle in Jason, who is portrayed as the victim in all of this. Why is Jason the victim? Why did they choose to represent Jason as the victim? Why is there no immediate threat from Jason? Why do they make Jason the anti-hero? Why are they more terrified and see Freddy as a real threat compared to this 7-foot-tall natural person in a hockey mask who is real?
I ask myself those questions with each viewing, and the writers did not do their research on the characters. Just took the end of Jason Goes to Hell, with Jason being in hell as their starting point, and tried their best to make a Freddy movie.
At one point near the last act, they make sense of all that is going on. They are not safe asleep or awake. That is the only time they see Jason as a real threat, but that is where it ends. They continue like Jason is meaningless and a dumb, dumb goof who is not a threat.
Sheriff Williams also downplayed Jason's threat and blamed everything on Freddy. We don't say his name! WTF!! I liked it when Detective Stubbs did his job and investigated the crimes. Then he brings up what is happening and says he is full of shit. I did enjoy him saying copycat killer. It was a nice nod to Friday the 13th, Part 5: A New Begining. Another nod to Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. That would be Stubbs mentioning contacting the FBI. The FBI blew Jason up.
These questions plague me with each viewing, and I know no answers will be given in the end. Just like my main question, why haven't you fleshed out Jason's regeneration and how he can regenerate his eyes, heart, and lungs but can't regenerate his fingers?!?
Each viewing is frustrating yet rewarding because these unanswered questions add to the film's absurdity.
Today's watch will have no commentary until I watch the alternate ending.
I lied. I found some interesting things and decided to take some photos. It's too bad that I cannot add the images. But if I could without getting in legal trouble, I would.
Interesting facts have returned!
I don't know if it is my copy of the movie, but it looked like it was raining in the house at the beginning when creepy Blake tells Lori he likes her house. Oh, CG rain.
It also is visible in the digital version.
Blake's stunt double wins for being able to walk out of the door for the actual actor.
The CGI blood for the dead security guard was interesting, considering both franchises relied on practical effects.
If you are going to hire a body double for a nude scene, make sure the body double doesn't have more significant assets than the original actress.
Three endings?
The original ending focuses on feeling sorry for Jason and how Jason and Freddy still exist in Lori's dreams. It also feeds off the sexual tension between Will and Lori. Overall, seeing them get affectionate was pointless. It reminded me that when you go at it the first time, you are clueless, overly into it, a bit aggressive, and boom goes the dynamite. It gives the audience a pretty shitty sex sequence where Will kills Lori, or it is at least implied. I would have enjoyed that, given how annoying she was. I also see how it doesn't fit into everything that came before.
Is the Cabin in the Woods Ending?
The hand out of the dry lake dragging and pulling Freddy and Jason into the Abyss. That would have been a better ending right there. But Jason and Freddy fighting in hell surrounded by demons! They should have shot that ending. I feel that is what people wanted to see.
Thankfully, The Cabin in the Woods gave us a version of that ending to an extent.
Today's winner was Jason.
Freddy 3-6
Jason 5-4
