Day 38
Day 38
December 7th, 2023
New content?
I have mentioned previously about the alternate endings to the film, but I’ve never touched on the deleted scenes. Today, we will begin our journey into deleted scenes one scene at a time. Oh boy. I do hope that one scene explains why Mark had shit on his face near the end of his dream sequence before his death. I am not expecting many outside sequences to be extended, but keep in mind I haven’t watched any of these scenes until now.
Before this gets started, painting the door to the house yellow was stupid. It should have been blue or even red.
Onto the first scene.
Heather and Billy
I like the nod to Heather Langenkamp, and either Billy the Puppet or Billy from Scream, but Billy from Black Christmas (1974) makes more sense because it’s also a nod to John Saxon.
I feel that this should have been the entire sequence to the opening. The soundtrack nod to Scream (1996), which also served as a nice nod to Wes Craven, was a great addition. This happened to be the only sequence in the movie that displayed the danger that the characters were in.
Billy was afraid of something. We never know if it was Jason or Freddy. But he clearly is not thrilled with being left alone while Heather goes and does a silly striptease for Mike along with skinny dipping. The child actor did the best acting in the entire movie, showing his fear of whatever he was afraid of. Since it’s an extension of the opening scene, it is safe to say it’s Jason, but what if it is Freddy?
The funny part of the scene is Billy flipping the bird to Heather.
What won me over with this version of the opening sequence was the fear that was already present. If they kept the movie going by displaying the real peril the kids were in, we would have got a much better film. That is my biggest gripe about the movies in both series; outside the first two movies, you no longer get the sense of fear for the kids. You know they are in danger, but are they really in danger? They make stupid choices, so as a viewer, you anticipate their demise.
You also got a feeling that maybe they would show a kid dying by Jason. That would be a jarring way to start the film, and it would have shown everyone that all cards are off the table. This isn’t your typical Freddy or Jason movie.
It would have been a more effective opening if this scene was used, in my opinion.
